Upon the death of the Pope, his ring (called the Fisherman’s Ring) is removed and destroyed
Scenario
When Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with presiding over one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, the election of a new pope, he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the very foundation of the Catholic Church. Many of the actions Cardinal Lawrence and the other cardinals take during the film’s conclave are true and accurate to the Catholic faith and centuries of tradition. The Vatican officially declares the throne of the Holy See (the governing body of the Catholic Church) vacant. The Pope’s residence is closed with a crimson ribbon and sealed with a wax papal seal. The College of Cardinals are housed in apartments (Domus Sanctae Marthae, Saint Martha’s House) to eat and sleep between votes.
And therefore there is no need for faith
Finally, the windows and doors of the Sistine Chapel, where the actual elections are held and the ballots are cast, are darkened, closed, and locked to preserve the secrecy of the conclave. Ayendin is claimed to be the first African pope. The Roman Catholic Church has had three African popes: Victor The First (189-199 AD), Miltiades (also known as Melchiades, 311-314 AD), and Gelasius The First (492-496 AD). Lawrence: Our faith is a living being precisely because it walks hand in hand with doubt. If there were only certainty and no doubt, there would be no mystery.

Let us pray that God would give us a pope who doubts. And let him give us a pope who sins and asks for forgiveness and who continues. Allegri: Miserere Performed by Capella Musicale Pontificia Sistina, Massimo Palombella Courtesy of Deutsche Grammophon GMBH under license from Universal Music Operations Ltd. First of all, without Ralph Fiennes, the film would be far below average. I think Fiennes is very underrated for his career.
You can feel his character struggling to remain objective
He is brilliant in this role as he tries to carry out the election of the next Pope. At times he has to decide when to make decisions to participate or to cross the line to ensure that fair play is maintained in a sense. I have been putting off this review because I have been wondering about the direction the filmmakers have decided to take. As it unravels, my feelings towards it are diminishing and diminishing. While it is interesting when you are in the theater, you later realize that you were just watching rumors and gossip about the various cardinals.
The film is really a one-man show
You don’t see the action going on behind the scenes or the development of the other characters or the candidates for the papacy. The score and sound enhance some very dull scenes. Most of the movie looks like how you would expect a Vatican election to go, but the ending is just terribly unrealistic and a bit insulting to the film as a whole. It feels like Hollywood just couldn’t help but set itself up and make a point where it wasn’t needed.
